Shizuku on Google Pixel: Setup & Android 17 Status

Pixel phones are the easiest for Shizuku — stock Android does not kill background services, so wireless activation just works and stays running. The only catch is Android 17, where a current upstream bug stops Shizuku from detecting managed apps. On Android 16 and earlier, with the GitHub release, everything works normally.

Get v13.6.0 from the download page; the activation guide has the full wireless steps.

Activate Shizuku on a Pixel

  1. Enable Developer options — Settings → About phone → tap Build number seven times.
  2. Turn on Wireless debugging under Settings → System → Developer options, while connected to Wi-Fi.
  3. Pair and start — use “Pair device with pairing code,” enter the code in Shizuku, then tap Start. Because Pixels do not throttle background apps, no extra battery settings are usually needed.
Good news for Pixel owners

You can normally skip the battery and autostart gymnastics that Samsung and Xiaomi require. If Shizuku ever does stop, set it to Unrestricted battery — but on stock Pixel software that is rarely necessary.

The Android 17 bug (honest status)

As of mid-2026, Shizuku is broken on Pixels running Android 17: it starts but cannot see or manage other apps. This is a known compatibility bug tracked upstream (GitHub issues #2180 and #1967), not something you can fix with settings. There is no patched release yet.

  • If you rely on Shizuku: stay on Android 16, where the GitHub release v13.6.0 works normally.
  • If you already updated to Android 17: there is no workaround today — watch the project’s releases for a fix, or a community fork.
  • Do not blame your setup: reinstalling, re-pairing, or switching activation methods will not help; the issue is in Shizuku’s compatibility with Android 17 internals.
Check before you update

If Shizuku is part of your daily workflow, hold off on the Android 17 update until the project ships compatibility. We will update this page when a fix lands.

Which Pixels and Android versions

Every Pixel from the Pixel 4 onward runs Android 11+ and activates Shizuku over wireless debugging with no PC. Newer models (Pixel 6 through the latest) run Android 14, 15 and 16, all of which work with the GitHub release — the rish shell just needs the Android 14+ dex step covered in the rish guide. The only broken combination is Android 17, below.

Wireless pairing tips on Pixel

  • Use “Pair device with pairing code” rather than the QR option — the code flow pairs more reliably with Shizuku’s prompt.
  • Stay on Wi-Fi, not mobile data, for the whole pairing.
  • If activation drops after a reboot, just re-pair — Pixels rotate the wireless-debugging port each session, which is normal and not a fault.

Pixel FAQ

Yes, and Pixels are among the easiest devices for Shizuku because stock Android does not aggressively kill background services. Activate it with wireless debugging and it stays running. The one exception is Android 17, where a current bug breaks it.
On Pixels running Android 17, Shizuku currently cannot detect or control managed apps — a known upstream bug in the project’s issue tracker. There is no fix yet. If you depend on Shizuku, stay on Android 16, which works normally with the GitHub release.
Always the GitHub release (v13.6.0), never the Play Store build. The Play version is over a year old and lacks Android 16 support, so it fails on recent Pixels even though the hardware is fully capable.
Make sure the phone is on Wi-Fi (not just mobile data), toggle Wireless debugging off and on, and use “Pair device with pairing code” rather than the QR option. If pairing still stalls, reboot and retry, or use a one-time USB/ADB activation instead.
